Shipment of illegally produced amber might be realized at auction – Yatseniuk

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that the shipment of amber illegally produced in Rivne region with a total volume of 2.64 tonnes might be realized at an auction, with the funds raised as a result of the sale being allocated to the state budget.

"This is of course under the authority of the investigator, but the law will allow for deciding on the realization of this amber at an auction and correspondingly allocating money gained from amber's realization to the state budget. This is only beginning, and what's happening there must be strictly stopped," Yatseniuk said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

He added that urgent measures to stop illegal production of amber will continue.

In turn, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that a total of 2.64 tonnes of amber was sized in Rivne region. According to him, the investigation is ongoing

The operation was conducted by a special group of the Interior Ministry with the participation of the State Fiscal Service.

According to Avakov, the seized amber was of a record amount. Its worth has been assessed at $3 million.
