Two peat bog fires smoldering on slightly more than 5 hectares in Chornobyl Puscha - State Emergency Service of Ukraine

Two confined peat bog fires had been smoldering on an area of 5.05 hectares in the exclusion and mandatory resettlement zone of the Chornobyl Puscha forestry area as of 7 a.m. The fires are being extinguished.

Ten fire engines and 56 men, among them five fire engines and 35 men of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine, are putting out the fire, the Service said on Monday morning.

Radiation levels are stable in Kyiv and the Kyiv region; exposure rates on the surface and radionuclide contents in the water do not exceed the norm.

Fires in the Chornobyl Puscha forestry area broke out on June 29; dry grass and bulrush were the first to catch fire. At first, the flames spread across spots with a total area of 130 hectares.
