Court frees on bail deputy prosecutor of Kyiv region, deputy head of PGO's main investigative department – Rada deputy speaker

First deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy has said deputy head of the Main Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office Volodymyr Shapakin and Deputy Prosecutor of Kyiv region Oleksandr Korniyets, who were detained on suspicion of corruption, have been bailed.

"I am convinced that the judge who made the decision to release on bail the deputy prosecutor of Kyiv region and the official of the Prosecutor General's Office should be suspended from their duties," he wrote on his Facebook page.

"I have sent a relevant request to the High Qualification Commission of Judges. I am convinced that an inquiry should be held in respect of such judges and such decisions," Parubiy added.

Several media reported earlier on Wednesday that Shapakin was bailed for UAH 3.2 million.

As reported, Petro Poroshenko Bloc MP Mustafa Nayem announced the detention of first deputy chief of Prosecutor General's Office main investigations department, Volodymyr Shapakin, and Oleksandr Korniyets, on suspicion of demanding a large bribe.

"Under my information, $500,000 in cash and a significant amount of jewelry and securities were seized during the searches [of their offices]. In particular, when carrying [out] a search of Shapakin's office, [investigators] found $130,000, $30,000 [also], as well as EUR 22,000 in a house, $170,000 and UAH 500,000 in a flat, documents on deposits worth UAH 800,000, as well as unregistered firearms and ammunition. During the search of Korniyets’ [office], 35 packs of diamonds with 65 stones in was revealed," he wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.

On Tuesday night, Pechersky district court arrested Shapakin for two months with bail set at UAH 3.2 million.
