Deputy Director of Ukrtransoil Shkvyra detained over fire at oil depot outside Kyiv – Avakov

Ukrtransoil deputy director and the actual manager of the oil depot belonging to BRSM-Nafta chain of filling stations in Vasylkiv district, Kyiv region, Yuriy Shkvyra, has been detained as part of an inquiry into the fire at the oil depot, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said.

"Documents, which may help the investigation, were seized at the place of residence of a number of managers of this enterprise. The actual management of oil depot was carried out by Yuriy Shkvyra, who served as deputy director of Ukrtransoil, who was detained yesterday, and [has been] notified of suspicions against him," Avakov said during the Cabinet meeting in Kyiv on Friday.

He added that the Interior Ministry has launched criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - violation of safety rules at explosive hazardous facilities, which resulted in deaths or other serious consequences. The culprits face restriction of freedom for up to five years, or imprisonment for a term of two to ten years, without the right to occupy certain positions or be involved in certain activities for up to three years.
