Experts to discuss EU-Ukraine free trade area deal in Brussels

A two-day round of technical talks between the European Union, Russia and Ukraine concerning the implementation of the Ukraine-EU Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement is due to begin in Brussels on Thursday, European Commission spokesperson Daniel Rosario told Interfax.

The next consultations of experts will be held on June 4-5, he said.

On May 18, EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom, Russia's Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin agreed to instruct their experts to discuss practical solutions to problems raised by Russia, including customs cooperation and technical barriers to trade, as well as sanitary and phytosanitary issues, the spokesperson said.

The experts were also given until July 2015 to inform the ministers of the results of their work. Another ministerial meeting should take place afterwards.

However, no official statements are expected to be made after the June 4-5 talks, Rosario said.
