Russia to seek release of Russians Yerofeyev, Alexandrov held in Ukraine – Lavrov

Russia will seek the release of its citizens, Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov, who were captured in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

"We will certainly be seeking their release, there are relevant legal procedures in the Ukrainian state, and we understand that too," he told a press conference after talks with his Kazakh counterpart Erlan Idrissov on Friday.

Furthermore, it is unfair that several media outlets reported that the captured Russians had ostensibly been abandoned in need, Lavrov said.

"Several Russian reporters found a way of getting into the hospital where the Russians were held, much earlier before our diplomats did. It is these journalists who later said that the Russians were dismayed by lack of any attention on the part of Russian diplomats," he said.

"This is not a very clean game and I hope no one will be trying to continue doing something similar and to speculate on the situation in which these people found themselves," the Russian minister said.
