Eastern Partnership could have been more instrumentally efficient – Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that the Eastern Partnership could have been more efficient and given European prospects to the countries aspiring to obtain them.

"Ukrainian Head of state has expressed an opinion that the Eastern Partnership could have been more instrumentally efficient. According to the President, there's an issue today whether the Eastern Partnership can play a more significant role and respond to the challenges – conduct reforms, ensure borders, security and peace, and finally if it can bring a European prospect to countries that deserve it and aspire to it," the president's press service has reported, referring to his speech at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga on Friday

Poroshenko also noted that Ukraine was fighting for peace in all of Europe.

"Ukraine is on the frontline of the fight for peace in Europe," he said and added that Ukraine was also fighting for Georgia, Moldova, Armenia and Belarus and for their opportunity to become European states sharing the same principles and values.

Poroshenko pointed out the great ambition and vision of the Riga summit, taking into account Russian aggression, Crimea's annexation and the singing of the Association Agreement.

"Today we must stand for the goal to make us stronger – united and democratic countries, completely dedicated to reforms and capable of realizing them. It must be our mutual interest," he said.

Poroshenko said he was sure that "we all strive for peace and stability, better live and greater freedom for people, larger cooperation and partnership on the continent."
