Washington doesn't plan to place anti-ballistic missile systems in Ukraine, U.S. Department of State Spokeswoman Marie Harf said.

"Well, there's no offer or plan to place U.S. or NATO ballistic missile defenses systems in Ukraine and I don't think we're exactly sure what they're [Ukrainian officials] referring to," she said when being asked by the journalist to comment on the recent statements of the Ukrainians authorities.

Besides, Harf said NATO missile defense was not directed against Russia.

Previously, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has said he is not ruling out the possibility of consultations on the deployment of missile defense elements on the Ukrainian territory.

"I do not rule out that we will have to hold consultations on the deployment of elements of the missile defense system on the Ukrainian territory as a way of protection from the nuclear threat [posed by Russia]. The prevention of a nuclear war is a joint responsibility of all people of goodwill to their planet," he said in an interview with the Ukrinform agency.
