UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic will visit Ukraine at the end of May, the UN News Centre website has reported.

He will visit the eastern regions of the country controlled by illegal armed formations.

In an interview with UN Radio, Simonovic said he supported the observance of the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, adding that the ceasefire was occasionally violated.

He also said it was important to turn the ceasefire into a stable peace.

The provisions of the Minsk agreements will help towards finding a political settlement to the conflict, Simonovic said.

He also said that at the beginning of June a UN mission monitoring human rights violations in Ukraine would release another report.
