1 min read

United States Navy vessel USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer currently on patrol in the Black Sea, is heading for Ukrainian territorial waters, according to the Turkish media.

The destroyer is expected to dock in Odesa soon.

As reported, the Jason Dunham entered the Black Sea on April 3 as a part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.

According to the United States Sixth Fleet, on April 4, the destroyer docked in the Bulgarian port of Varna. On April 5, it participated in joint military exercise with a Romanian corvette and a Bulgarian mine sweeper.

The Jason Dunham will be in the Black Sea until April 14. It replaced the French frigate La Fayette, which sailed to the Mediterranean through the Turkish Straits on March 30.

This is not the first time the Jason Dunham has visited the Black Sea. In 2012, it participated in a joint military exercise with Ukrainian Navy.

The Montreux Convention limits the presence of non-Black Sea countries' ships in the Black Sea to 21 days, if their aggregate tonnage is below 30,000 tonnes.
