Financing of occupied areas of Donbas to resume after control is restored - Turchynov

The budget financing of the occupied areas in Donbas will be resumed after the Ukrainian authorities regain full control there, National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has said.

"As long as the areas are occupied by Russia their budget financing is impossible, as Ukraine will not finance occupants and terrorists who wage war against their own people," the press service of the National Security and Defense Council reported, citing Turchynov.

He also commented on an article about a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and businesspeople who discussed Donbas, saying that the fact that the article appeared three weeks after the meeting shows that Russia is trying to legitimize its plans to resume its aggression in eastern Ukraine and to justify their actions to the world.

"Information on certain Ukrainian "gifts" to Russia cannot be taken seriously. This looks like the painful dreams of people who govern Russia today," Turchynov said, adding that Donbas and Crimea are integral parts of Ukraine.

Previously, the Russian Forbes magazine reported that Putin, at a meeting with businesspeople on March 19, said that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko allegedly asked him to take Donbas, while Putin said that he does not need it and advised Poroshenko to recognize Donbas as independent or pay pensions and other social payments to its residents.
