Probe into ex-ministers Mokhnyk, Shvaika underway - PGO

2 min read

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has said that the guilt of the former Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Andriy Mokhnyk, and the former Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Ihor Shvaika, has not yet been established.

"It's wrong when the heads of law-enforcement agencies make a presentation. Do we have cases against the ministries headed by Mokhnyk and Shvaika? Yes, we do. Has the guilt of Mokhnyk and Shvaika been established? No, it has not," Deputy Head of the Chief Department of Prosecutor General's Office and Head of the Corruption Crime Investigation Department Pavlo Zhebrivsky said on the Fifth TV Channel late on Sunday.

He said that when the cases have been sent to court, and when Mokhnyk and Shvaika have been informed of being under suspicion, then the heads of law-enforcement agencies will have the right to speak.

"We should divide those who are in politics and write posts in Facebook or other social networks, and those who are doing real work. No one has revoked the presumption of innocence, and it is wrong to declare that someone is guilty before the court issues its ruling. We should simply work. There are questions about Ukrspyrt and the Kyoto [protocol] money… I think that no one has the right to accuse them [Mokhnyk and Shvaika] today," he said, when commenting on a statement made by Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov.

As reported, Avakov said that an investigation into the operation of the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry and the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry when they were headed by representatives of the Svoboda political party has been launched.

Representatives of Svoboda have said that the accusations made by Avakov are groundless.
