Up to seven months needed to deploy peacekeepers in Ukraine – Foreign Minister Klimkin

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin says that Kyiv is mulling various options of a peacekeeping mission, stressing that at least half a year is needed to deploy the mission.

"I've been to New York recently, talked to almost all the representatives of the UN Security Council's member states. There is general understanding that we should work on a peacekeeping option. The problem is that from six to seven months are needed to deploy the mission," Klimkin said in an interview with the Focus Weekly published on Friday.

The minister said Kyiv was mulling different options. "Among them are UN peacekeepers, an EU police mission," he said. At the same time, according to him, it is "more complicated politically" for the EU to send peacekeepers to Ukraine, as this mission should in any case be authorized by the United Nations.
