Ukrainian PM Yatseniuk calls for holding extraordinary parliamentary session

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has asked for the convention of an extraordinary Verkhovna Rada session to make urgent decisions toward stabilizing the country's financial system.

"I am asking the parliamentary coalition to urgently convene for an extraordinary parliamentary session in order to adopt the essential laws and consider [measures] to stabilize Ukraine's financial system," Yatseniuk said opening a government meeting on Wednesday.

The government has submitted to the parliament the entire package of bills required for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide financial aid to Kyiv, Yatseniuk said. "We have conducted consultations with all factions of the coalition, except for the largest faction, with which we expect consultations regarding the adoption of the bills. I'll stress that there have been no significant disagreements between the government and the faction in considering these bills," Yatseniuk said.

It was reported earlier that the Verkhovna Rada planned to gather for an extraordinary meeting on March 3 to consider amendments to the 2015 national budget.
