Klimkin, Ban Ki-moon discuss deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during his visit to New York, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has reported.

Ban Ki-moon expressed his disappointment that despite the Minsk II Agreements being made on February 12 this year, militants have continued fighting, which has caused civilian deaths.

Klimkin said that the seizure of Debaltseve by the Russian backed militants and the ongoing attacks on other areas are a flagrant violation of the Minsk II Agreements.

He said that Ukraine remained committed to the implementation of the agreements.

"During the meeting, the parties discussed the possible deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission to Ukraine, which would contribute to stabilization of the situation and compliance with the obligations under the Minsk II Agreements by all the parties," the Ministry's press office said.
