Radical party's MPs suggest simplified citizenship procedure for foreign ATO participants

Several Oleh Liashko's Radical Party MP's have suggested that the Verkhovna Rada simplify the citizenship acquisition process for foreigners who have fought for Ukraine in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO), or who were victims of human rights abuses in their homelands due to their support of Ukraine's sovereignty.

The corresponding bill No. 1901 was registered in parliament on Monday.

"The goal of the bill is to simplify the procedure of becoming a Ukrainian citizen for persons who protected Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, and who participated in the anti-terrorist operation [ATO]… as well as for persons who were victims of human rights and liberties abuse in the territory of a foreign state, due to their [pro-Ukrainian] position, or actions aimed at supporting Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence," reads the explanatory note to the bill.

According to the bill, to become a citizen of Ukraine, ATO participants need to present a court ruling confirming their involvement in the ATO or military action.

Also, foreigners who were victims of human rights abuses as a result of their support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, need to file a request to become a citizen along with copies of official documents confirming that abuse took place.
