President of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission) President Gianni Buquicchio has offered Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to make expert in constitutional law and ex-premier of Poland Hanna Suchocka a member of the Ukrainian Constitution Commission.

"The president of the Venice Commission has praised the initiative of the Ukrainian president to establish the Constitutional commission to work out the necessary amendments to the Constitution. He suggested that the Constitutional Commission could take former prime minister of Poland, expert in constitutional law Hanna Suchocka a sits member. According to Gianni Buquicchio, profound legislative amendments are impossible without changing the Constitution," the Ukrainian president's press service reported.

When talking with Poroshenko, Buquicchio said that the Venice Commission was ready to provide expert conclusions regarding the amendments to the Constitution on decentralization and the draft law on judiciary as soon as it is revised by the Verkhovna Rada.

"You are doing a lot to establish an atmosphere of dialogue, achieve peaceful resolution and compliance with the law in the state," Buquicchio noted. According to him, it was extremely difficult to implement reforms given the situation in the country. "Still, you have to do that, for the whole world is watching Ukraine right now," the Venice Commission president said.

The Venice Commission is also ready to help Ukraine draw up the bills on lustration, Buquicchio said. "We will work as fast as possible," he said, according to the press service.

A delegation of Venice Commission experts will arrive in Ukraine next week to hold a number of meetings and address the matter, including at the Ukrainian Justice Ministry, he said.

Poroshenko said in reply that the opinion of Venice Commission experts is very important to Ukraine.
