Co-owner of Dream Town mall Korogodsky wants to become citizen of Ukraine

Businessman Garik Korogodsky, the co-owner of the Dream Town shopping and leisure center, wants to become citizen of Ukraine and renounce Russian citizenship, but he wants to retain Israeli citizenship, Korogodsky wrote on his Facebook page.

He criticized Ukrainian legislation in this and called on lawmakers to settle the issue.

"I call on the powers that be, first of all, lawmakers. Many of you have dual and triple citizenship. This is not in line with Ukrainian law, as the first citizenship gained is Ukrainian, and there is no procedure for revoking citizenship. Legislation is miserable at this point. For example, for hiring a foreigner to the government, the latter is to revoke all other citizenships during two years. This is pure profanation," said Korogodsky.

He added that many persons, including him, want to gain Ukrainian citizenship.

"This is a good signal to society, and I revoke Russian citizenship. It's a great help in ideological war, which Ukraine is losing to Russia now," he wrote.

"Bring the laws in order. The cost is a zero. I'm ready to draw up a professional draft law, with support in the parliament. I call on lawmakers I know – urge this on, please," he added.
