Ukrainian, Estonian foreign ministers discuss European integration, situation in Donbas

The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Estonia, Pavlo Klimkin and Keit Pentus-Rosimannus, have discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine and cooperation on European integration.

"During the meeting, they focused on the political situation in Ukraine, in particular on the events in eastern regions, as well as the main priorities of Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the results of the ministers meeting in Kyiv on January 13.

The Ukrainian side noted Estonia's active participation in multilateral cooperation organizations, in particular the UN, the EU, NATO, OSCE and the Council of Europe, in order to mobilize the international community's support for Ukraine's efforts in countering Russian aggression. "Estonia reaffirmed its strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine amid Russian military aggression," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

The Estonian foreign minister, in turn, said that her country is ready to share its experience of European integration, and provide assistance to Ukraine for the effective implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

Klimkin and Pentus-Rosimannus agreed that the signing of a protocol between the governments of Ukraine and Estonia on agreeing readmission between Ukraine and the European community was another step towards the introduction of a visa-free regime between Ukraine and EU member states, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
