Ukraine suspends bus services to ATO zone from Jan 6

The Ukrainian state inspectorate for ground transport safety is suspending passenger transportation services on bus routes to the areas in the anti-terrorist operation zone in the east of the country from January 6, the authority said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

There will be no bus transportation services in the ATO zone due to the threat to passengers' life and health.

It was reported that bus services across the demarcation line in the anti-terrorist operation zone were to be limited on seven routes: Luhansk-Schastia-Novoaidar, Luhansk-Stanytsia Luhanska-Shyroky, Faschevka-Debaltseve-Artemivsk, Horlivka-Artemivsk, Donetsk-Kurakhove, Donetsk-Mariupol (via Volnovakha), and Novoazovsk-Krasnoarmiysk-Talakivka-Mariupol.

Checkpoints will be set up in these places with Ukrainian border guards, customs officers and police on duty, military operation spokesman Andriy Lysenko said at a briefing on Tuesday.

"Special equipment will be installed here, which will be connected to the central data system that will identify the individuals who will be crossing these checkpoints," Lysenko said.

An identity document will be required to cross these checkpoints, he added.

All other borders will be mined, he said.
