Ukrainian Foreign Ministry hopes date for trilateral group meeting in Minsk will soon be determined

The trilateral group created to solve the situation in eastern Ukraine, which follows the Russia-Ukraine-OSCE format, and includes representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, has not yet determined the date for its next meeting in Minsk, with the decision dependent on the DPR's and LPR's position, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said.

"The trilateral contact group continues its consultations, and regularly meets. We hope that in the near future they will be able to agree to a meeting involving representatives of illegal armed groups from Luhansk and Donetsk regions," Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He also added: "Ukraine's position is known to all: we want such a meeting to be held as soon as possible. The subject of conversation at this meeting should be the unconditional implementation by all parties of the Minsk agreements that serve as a 'road map' for the de-escalation of the situation in east Ukraine."

As reported, State Duma CIS Affairs Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky said that the contact group for Ukraine was likely to convene its next meeting in Minsk on December 11.

"A decision regarding the date of the meeting has been 90% confirmed," Slutsky told reporters on Tuesday, after a meeting of the committee he chairs, attended by Russian Foreign Ministry representatives.

The Minsk negotiations are due to be attended by Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov, former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, representatives of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and OSCE special envoy Heidi Tagliavini, Slutsky said.
