Svoboda Party members in parliament initiate ban of communist ideology

Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada deputies representing the nationalist party Svoboda (Freedom) have registered a bill proposing the banning communist ideology in Ukraine.

The parliamentary website reported on Wednesday that the bill's authors are Andriy Ilyenko, Yuriy Levchenko, Oleh Osukhovsky, Yuriy Bublyk, Oleksandr Marchenko, and Mykhailo Holovko.

In the meantime, judicial proceedings are under way in Ukraine on a suit by the Justice Ministry on banning the Communist Party's activities. The Kyiv District Administrative Court ruled in November to suspend the hearings at a request by a Communist Party lawyer.
