Ukraine could turn off power supply to Crimea if peninsula exceeds consumption limits - Prodan

Ukraine's Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Prodan does not rule out the possibility of turning off electricity supply to Crimea from the mainland if the peninsula exceeds consumption limits.

According to him, at present due to a lack of power in the integrated energy system of Ukraine electricity is supplied to Crimea through one power grid.

"If in the future the peninsula does not do what we request, then, of course, we will shut off that line too," he told reporters in Kyiv.

At the same time, the minister said that Crimea now consumes power within the limits set.

"They do not exceed the limit because know that if they consume more, the power grid will be shut off," he added.

Prodan also noted that the schedule of power emergency shutdown is currently introduced throughout the entire mainland Ukraine.
