People's Front, Poroshenko Bloc call for Sadovy's appointment as first deputy PM

The People's Front and Bloc of Petro Poroshenko factions in parliament have called for the appointment of Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy as Ukraine's first deputy prime minister.

"We believe that all effective managers in the country should currently join the creation of changes as part of the joint work of the Cabinet of Ministers, the president and the Verkhovna Rada. We believe that Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy should work to implement decentralization in government at the post of first deputy prime minister. He is a well-known expert in this sphere of local government for whom, along with the Samopomich Union Party, Ukrainians expressed strong support at parliamentary elections," reads a statement by the leadership of the two factions, which was posted on the website of the People's Front Party on Monday.

The two factions also support the idea of involving leading experts, including from other countries, for the implementation of reforms in Ukraine.

"Today, Ukraine has a unique chance for rapid and high-quality transformations. For the sake of this purpose politicians must take full responsibility for the realization of the aspirations of the people, for the reforms and for the future of the country," reads the statement.

The parties also noted that the new government was facing concrete tasks - the fight against corruption, the strengthening of energy independence, reform of the political system, economic reform, decentralization and local government reform.

As reported, the post of first deputy prime minister has been vacant since Vitaliy Yarema's appointment as Ukraine's prosecutor general last June.
