Russia strengthens its military contingent in Donbas and on border with Ukraine - NSDC

Russia has increased the number of its armed forces in Donbas and on the border with Ukraine, National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) spokesman Andriy Lysenko has said.

"The growing number of Russian troops was recorded in the occupied territories in the east of Ukraine and on the border with Russia," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.

In particular, he said, about 60 armored vehicles have been moved from Rostov-on-Don to the areas neighboring Ukraine in the past 24 hours.

Lysenko also said that a train with 50 T-64 tanks and ten command and staff vehicles without any insignia had arrived at the railway station in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky.

In addition, he said, columns of military vehicles were seen moving through the town of Molodohvardiysk in Luhansk region.

At the same time, he said, the command of the Russian Armed Forces has placed some military transport aviation units in the Moscow and Ryazan regions on high combat alert.

"This foresees the possibility of rapid delivery by Il-76s aircraft of additional units and military equipment to the border with Ukraine," Lysenko said.

He said that Russia continued aerial reconnaissance on the border with Ukraine and in the controlled areas along the line of the clashes.

In general, Lysenko said, six drones and a helicopter were sighted.

In particular, they were used near Mariupol and its outskirts, he said.
