Poroshenko Bloc backs Yatseniuk as candidate for prime minister - party statement

Petro Poroshenko Bloc has announced its support for the candidacy of Arseniy Yatseniuk for the office of the Ukrainian Prime Minister proposed by President Petro Poroshenko.

"The Petro Poroshenko Bloc Party will support the candidacy of Arseniy Yatseniuk for the office of the prime minister in a new coalition government on the condition of a detailed agreement of a plan of joint activity," the party said in a statement on its Web site, citing a resolution made at the first session of the Bloc's future faction in Kyiv on Friday.

The session attendees also delegated Yuriy Lutsenko, Volodymyr Hroisman and Vitaliy Kovalchuk as representatives for a negotiating team for setting up the coalition.

"Preliminary data suggest that the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction already consists of 150 deputies. These are 132 candidates elected in multi- and single-mandate constituencies and 18 independents who were supported by the party at the elections," the statement said.

Members of the political party are also considering electing a faction leader, a source who attended the meeting of the future coalition members told Interfax.

The candidacy of one of the party leaders, Yuriy Lutsenko, was proposed to the attendees the source said.

In addition, the attendees considered setting up a working group for coalition talks and a working group in charge of preparations for the first session of the Verkhovna Rada, the source said.

The results of processing 99.72% of the election protocols obtained by the Central Election Commission from election commissions at the parliamentary elections last Sunday showed Yatseniuk People's Front as winning 22.16% of votes and the Poroshenko Bloc with 21.83% in the multi-mandate constituency.
