First drones for OSCE mission arrive in Ukraine

Two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to support the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMS) in the confrontation zone in eastern Ukraine have been delivered to Ukraine, the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) reports.

"Two unmanned aerial vehicles arrived in Ukraine last night. They will be used by the mission in the conflict zone, along the line of contact between the warring sides," NSDC Information Analysis Center spokesman Andriy Lysenko said at a press briefing on Monday.

The drones are being cleared by customs and their operators will arrive shortly, he said.

"These vehicles will expand and improve the efficiency of the [OSCE] observation mission's activity and help obtain rapid and detailed information from the ground," Lysenko stressed.

As reported earlier, a memorandum was signed at the Minsk meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on September 20 to ban military aircraft flights, including drones with the exception of those operated by the OSCE, in the combat zone.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said later that the first unmanned aerial vehicles would soon be brought to Ukraine to support the OSCE monitoring of the ceasefire in Donbas and the withdrawal of hardware.
