Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that Ukrainian military have completed 80% of the fortifications for strengthening the defense line in the east.

"Today, I can say that 80% of the fortifications of the first and second lines are ready, and it is now our priority," Poroshenko said during a visit to an army training site in Zhytomyr region on Saturday.

According to the president, bunkers and fortifications, which are being built on the line where clashes are taking place, should provide not only shelter, but also relative comfort for the military, especially in the winter.

Poroshenko noted that this was done to protect the line of defense.
