Poroshenko asks law enforcers to find out who is to blame for conflict with MP Shufrych in Odesa

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has instructed law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident involving MP Nestor Shufrych in Odesa.

"Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko instructed law enforcement agencies, particularly the Interior Ministry, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine to thoroughly study the situation, who provoked the conflict in Odesa on September 30, in which a people's deputy of Ukraine was hurt," the presidential press service told Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

Poroshenko noted that these law enforcement agencies should carefully perform their duties. He also called on politicians "not to participate in the scenarios that destabilize the situation in Ukraine."

As reported, on September 30, Right Sector and Euromaidan activists stopped Party of Regions parliamentarian Nestor Shufrych and Odesa councilor Mykola Skoryk, who accompanied him, from holding a press conference in Odesa. Around a hundred activists gathered outside the building where the press conference was due to take place, intending to shove Shufrych into a trash container. However, the politician did not show up for the press conference.

After that both politicians still tried to make a small statement for the press inside the building of the Odesa regional state administration. However, activists broke into the building, and a tussle ensued.

According to Skoryk's spokesperson, he sustained "several tangible punches."

Later, police launched a criminal inquiry into the brawl under Article 296 (hooliganism) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code.
