Donetsk City Council says tensions extremely high

The sound of gunfire can be heard throughout Donetsk, and the hostilities have cut gas supplies to the majority of private households, says a report posted on the city administration's Web site.

"A shell destroyed a private house at 88 Krupska Street in the Kyivsky district yesterday. Heavy fighting on the eastern and northern outskirts of Donetsk has caused an unprecedented halt of gas supply. Due to the multiple shrapnel damage and direct hits of truck pipelines and distribution grids, more than 50 streets, mostly private households, were disconnected from the gas system on September 29," the Web site reported on Tuesday.

In all, gas supplies to 875 homes have been disrupted. There have been no casualty reports as of yet.

The City Council stressed that tensions remained extremely high as of 1000.

Once the gas system's damage is confined, Donetskmiskgaz crews will do their best to restore gas supply to households.
