Area controlled by Ukrainian military grows since September 5 - Poroshenko

The area controlled by the Ukrainian army in Donbas has grown from what it was before September 5, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

"If you take a look at the line of contact, which will be made public by a Verkhovna Rada resolution, you will see that the line of contact has been significantly moved and the Ukrainian troops will occupy the positions lost in late August along the River Kalmius," the president said in an interview with Ukrainian television channels on Sunday.

For instance, a line of defense will be built along the River Kalmius, he noted.

"The area to be controlled by the Ukrainian forces grows significantly (...) as compared to September 5, [the day] of signing of the Minsk Protocol," Poroshenko underscored.

The River Kalmius flows across in Ukraine, in the Yasynuvata, Starobesheve, Telman and Novoazovsk districts of Donetsk region. It runs into the Sea of Azov in Mariupol.
