Poroshenko continues telephone talks with Merkel

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has continued his telephone consultations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the press service of the head of state has reported.

The sides discussed the situation in the Donbas and the necessary steps to stop the aggression and establish a dialogue for the peaceful settlement of the situation.

"Poroshenko also urged Merkel to do everything within the EU and internationally to support Ukraine and condemn aggression," reads the report.

According to the report, Merkel said she was ready to support decisive action by the EU at the next meeting of the European Council to be held on August 30. In particular, she said that the EU should show solidarity with Ukraine.

"In this context, the sides discussed the possibility of Poroshenko's address at a meeting of the European Council to the heads of state and government and also agreed to continue intensive dialogue with the purpose of a rapid response to the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions," the president's press service reported.
