UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic will travel to Kyiv, Kharkiv and Sloviansk during his visit to Ukraine August 28 through September 3, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's policy and communications department, Yevhen Perebyinis, has said.

He said at a briefing on Wednesday that Simonovic plans to hold a series of meetings at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Presidential Administration and other executive bodies.

"The main purpose of Ivan Simonovic's visit is to evaluate the current situation in the observance of human rights in Ukraine, with a focus on its south-eastern regions, and the present next (fifth) OHCHR report prepared by the UN mission on human rights, which has worked in Ukraine since March 15 at the invitation of the Ukrainian government," the diplomat said.

Perebyinis said that this would be Simonovic's fourth visit to Ukraine in the last six months.
