Poroshenko signs bill on serving justice amid battle actions in eastern Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a bill on serving justice amid the anti-terrorist operation being held in eastern Ukraine.

The draft law foresees the mechanism to determine courts for trying cases and carrying out pre-trial investigation of criminal offenses, if this is impossible at the area of holding the anti-terrorist operation, the presidential press office said.

The bill is aimed at ensuring access of citizens and legal entities to court, the press office said.

According to the document, determining courts for trying such cases rests upon chairpersons of higher specialized courts, while the state court administration will compose lists of local and appeal courts, which are in the area where the forceful operation is held and where justice is impossible to be served, and will send relevant resolutions to heads of higher specialized courts for making relevant decisions.

At the same time, if it is impossible to carry out pre-trial investigation, the sequence of criminal offenses committed in the area of holding the anti-terrorist operation will be determined by the Ukrainian prosecutor general, the draft law said.

The bill comes into effect on the day it is released.
