Russian aid convoy to undergo customs clearance at Rostov region's Donetsk checkpoint

The Russian humanitarian aid convoy bound for eastern Ukraine will undergo customs clearance at Russia's Donetsk border checkpoint in Rostov region, a spokesman for the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The humanitarian cargo will undergo customs clearance at the Russian checkpoint Donetsk [Izvarne on the Ukrainian side of the border]. Officials of the [Ukrainian] border guard department and customs service are heading to the site on order issued by the president of Ukraine," the spokesman said.

All procedures on the border will be performed in the presence of representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The International Committee of the Red Cross will accept the cargo.

The spokesman, however, declined to disclose the convoy's further route.

Almost 300 KamAZ trucks carrying humanitarian supplies intended for the population in eastern Ukraine left the town of Naro-Fominsk, outside of Moscow, on August 12.
