Poroshenko frustrated by Rada refusing to recognize self-proclaimed republics as terrorist organizations

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko regrets that the Verkhovna Rada has refused to recognize the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) as terrorist organizations.

"I don't know how to work with the parliament, as half of the Verkhovna Rada doesn't vote for recognizing the LPR and DPR as terrorist organizations. I don't know how to work with the parliament in which a huge number [of deputies], whole factions, make up 'the fifth column' controlled from abroad. And this danger is only increasing," Poroshenko said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels.

This is why, proceeding from national security concerns, Ukraine needs early parliamentary elections, Poroshenko said.

Asked whether the Ukrainian government bodies need to undergo lustration (purge), the president stressed that the parliament should play the key role in this process. "Reelections are the best and the most efficient form of lustration of not only the parliament but also the political forces," he said.
