Donetsk authorities report overnight shelling of city

Train departures have been suspended from Donetsk after the rail track at several stations was damaged as a result of fighting, Donetsk city administration said on its Web site.

"The city's railway station is functioning, but all train departures and arrivals have been suspended at Donetsk station after the rail track and overhead wiring were damaged at Yasynuvata, Avdiyivka, Horlivka and Mykytivka stations. The administration is taking measures to fix these problems and resume train services as soon as possible," the administration said.

Donetsk again came under artillery fire last night, it said. The city's Leninsky and Kyivsky neighborhoods were seriously damaged by the strikes. So far, there have been no reports on civilian deaths and injuries.

The gas mains were damaged in the Kyivsky and Leninsly districts of the city as a result of fighting. In a separate development, a shell hit a high-voltage electricity transmission line in the city's Kyivsky district, leaving 54 residential buildings without power.

No fighting was reported near Donetsk as of 0900 on Tuesday. The city's utilities services and public transport are operating as usual.
