Kyiv-based radio station to undergo inspection for broadcasting greeting addressed to self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic

The Ukrainian National TV and Radio Council will conduct an unplanned inspection at the editorial office of the Shanson radio station after it broadcast a greeting addressed to the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in one of its programs.

"In line with a decision made at a July 17 session, the National Council will order an unplanned inspection at the Kyiv-based company TRK Shanson following an appeal by N.P. Atamaniuk regarding the broadcasting of a greeting addressed to the DPR in the 'KPZ' program of requests on 101.9 MHz on July 8," the board said on its Web site on Tuesday.

As the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has designated the DPR as a terrorist organization, the broadcasting of the said greeting may be qualified as one violating the Ukrainian law on TV and radio broadcasting, particularly Paragraph 4 of Article 6, Part 2, which prohibits the use of TV and radio organizations for encouraging or propagating aggressive actions, and Paragraph 12 of Article 6, Part 2, which prohibits the use of TV and radio organizations for committing other criminally punishable actions.

"Based on the aforementioned, the decision was made to order an unplanned inspection," it said.
