Electricity supply resumed in Sloviansk - Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that electricity supply was resumed in Sloviansk (Donetsk region) under a temporary scheme as of 1700 on Tuesday.

"I have been told that today at 1700, the deadline set by me, we resumed electricity supply in Sloviansk under a temporary scheme. A town that remained without electricity for weeks will be able to turn on the lights today," he said at a briefing on Tuesday as part of his working visit to Sloviansk.

He noted that Ukrainian maintenance crews would do everything to return to the town to normal life.

"Risking their lives, Ukrainian electricians and repairers are working around the clock to return peace to Sloviansk. I'm sure that they will fulfill their task perfectly," Poroshenko said.

He said that local authorities had been tasked with restoring the housing stock so that residents can return to the town.

"We have clearly established the terms when schools should be restored, so that children could go to school on September 1, because going to school is also a symbol of peace," Poroshenko said.
