The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has officially confirmed that the airspace over Crimea belongs to Ukraine and the organization denied information spread by Russian mass media on the negotiations with Russia on the transfer of airspace to its management, Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Maksym Burbak said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

"Today we received a letter from the ICAO, which denies all of the statements in the Russian mass media that any negotiations between ICAO and Russia on the Crimean airspace are being held. The ICAO again confirmed that Crimea is the territory of Ukraine, and only UkSATSE is to provide safety and control [services]," the minister said.

Commenting on the earlier announced possibility of providing financial assistance by Europe for the restoration of the aviation infrastructure in the eastern part of Ukraine, he said that European partners would provide the aid that has been agreed.

"They promise us to provide technical aid in full, as soon as we ask for it.

Earlier the Russian mass media reported, referring to Deputy Transport Minister of Russia Valery Okulov, that the ICAO said that Russia is to provide air navigation services over Crimea and territorial waters (the 19-kilometer zone).

It was reported that the ICAO believes that Ukraine is to provide air navigation services over neutral waters, taking into account technical agreements with Russia on air navigation services near Simferopol city, Okulov said.
