Russia closes three motor crossing points on border with Ukraine to prevent militants returning home – NSDC

Russia has closed three international motor vehicle crossing points on the border with Ukraine in an attempt not to let militants from Ukraine enter Russian territory, spokesman of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine info center Andriy Lysenko reported.

"Yesterday in the course of the day Russia shut three checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. In particular, on July 1 the international motor vehicle crossing points at Hukovo, Donetsk, and Novoshakhtynsk of Rostov region were closed," Lysenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He said that earlier the militants crossed at these points freely.

"Now the Russian side has set up special roadblocks here enhancing them with heavy armored vehicles," he said.

According to Lysenko, it was informed that "there is a ban on letting armed militants escaping from the territory of Ukraine through these motor vehicle crossing points."

As spokesman for the Federal Security Service's (FSB) Border Guard administration in Rostov Region, Vasily Malaev, told Interfax-South, the Hukovo, Donetsk, and Novoshakhtynsk border crossing points are closed because of continuous shooting on the territory of Ukraine. Later the press service of the southern customs department said that the Donetsk customs crossing point now admits cars.
