Poroshenko orders Klitschko to bring title of best European capital back to Kyiv

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has delegated Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko the powers of Head of Kyiv City State Administration to combat corruption.

"I have made a decision to appoint you to the post of Kyiv CSA Head. I am signing a decree that gives you these powers," Poroshenko said at the beginning of the meeting with Klitschko.

Outlining the top-priority tasks of Kyiv government, the president underlined the necessity of restoring the capital. "Kyiv must regain the title of the best European capital," he said.

Another important task, according to the president, is the fight against corruption.

The head of state noted that soon, local government would receive new expanded powers after the adoption of amendments to the constitution that will introduce the decentralization of power. He called these amendments an important historical decision, as decentralization is one of the important items of the president's peace plan.

In this context, Poroshenko noted that the cancellation of the mandate of the Federation Council to use the Armed Forces of Russia on Ukrainian soil is an aftermath of the implementation of the president's peace plan.

The head of the state wished Vitali Klitschko fruitful and efficient work for the benefit of Kyiv residents and Ukraine.

Kyiv Mayor and Head of Kyiv City State Administration Klitschko considers his appointment a "return of local government to Kyiv".

"Kyiv residents expect that Kyiv mayor will have powers to fulfill their aspirations: to influence the administration, the budget, and the long-awaited changes," he said.

Earlier Poroshenko has signed a decree appointing Vitali Klitschko as head of Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).
