A Ukrainian army roadblock was attacked near Sloviansk on Tuesday night, army operation spokesman Vladyslav Selezniov said.

Up to 40 attackers were carrying firearms and sniper rifles, he said. "They tried to go around the roadblock on the left, by the hills, but resolute actions of Ukrainian soldiers forced them to retreat. The roadblock was put under mortar fire," Selezniov wrote on Facebook.

He also said that about 20 men attacked a Ukrainian army convoy near the town of Izium, Kharkiv region, on Tuesday night but the attack was deterred.

"There were no casualties amongst the civilian population and Ukrainian law enforcers," Selezniov noted.

Meanwhile, the Sloviansk self-defense staff told Interfax-Ukraine in the evening of May 20 that the Ukrainian army opened fire on the town of Semenivka, the Sloviansk railroad terminal and the city center.
