New Ukrainian president should sign remaining part of Association Agreement with EU - Yatseniuk

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that the newly elected Ukrainian president should sign the remaining part of the Association Agreement, including a deep and comprehensive free trade area, during the head of state's first official visit to Brussels

He said this in Brussels on Tuesday at a joint press conference with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, which took place after a meeting between the Ukrainian government and the European Commission.

"The Ukrainian government is committed to the implementation of the already signed part of the Association Agreement, and we will insistently recommend that a new president make his or her first visit to Brussels to sign the rest," Yatseniuk said.

He also responded to Barroso's remarks on the need to engage Russia in cooperation.

"We know that Russia has already been engaged. We urge Russia to condemn the so-called separatists, but in reality terrorists, [and ask them] to vacate buildings and stabilize the situation in Ukraine. Russia will fail in its efforts to thwart Ukraine," Yatseniuk said.

However, he said that the key issue was free and fair presidential elections.

"We hope to get a legitimate president," he added.
