The United States, the European Union and Russia should make a joint high-level trip to hotspots in Ukraine with local officials to signal political backing for the April 17 Geneva agreement, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has said.

His proposal was reported by Deutsche Welle‎ radio on Friday.

In a letter to Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter, whose country chairs the OSCE, the German minister urged to strengthen an organization's intermediary role in Ukraine's conflict settlement.

According to the newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the OSCE monitoring mission could organize roundtables involving the representatives of both conflicting parties.

"It is important to achieve visible changes quickly for the population," Steinmeier wrote in a letter.
