1 min read

SBU counterintelligence officers detained a Ukrainian citizen in Melitopol (Zaporizhia region) on April 14 when he was travelling to Luhansk to perform a sabotage task of the Russian military intelligence.

"It was established that the citizen, born in 1981, a resident of Zaporizhia region, was a recruited officer of the intelligence agency of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. In March, he travelled to Crimea to get instructions to provoke mass disturbances and terrorize the local population in Luhansk region. In order to perform a criminal task, he had to create a subversive group consisting of the residents of Zaporizhia. Moreover, they had to collect information on the size, location and routes of military units of Ukraine in the southeastern direction, primarily those engaged in an anti-terrorist operation," the SBU press center reported on Wednesday.

The citizen has been detained, and the question of bringing him to justice for high treason is being considered.
