EC expects Ukraine, Slovakia to sign memo on reverse gas supplies after Easter

The European Commission expects that Kyiv and Bratislava will sign a memorandum of understanding on the reverse gas shipments immediately after Easter.

The spokeswoman for European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger, Sabine Berger, said this on Friday.

The European Commission continues to work with the stakeholders to ensure that the memorandum of understanding on reverse gas supplies could be signed as soon as possible - after Easter (which this year falls on April 20 both for Catholic and Orthodox Christians), she said.

Berger stressed that a breakthrough in these long negotiations would allow Ukraine to receive up to 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year in addition to what the country was already getting from Hungary and Poland.

This option fully complies with European legislation, he said.
