SBU detains 2 Russians suspected of plotting to abduct Ukrainian politicians

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) arrested on April 2 in Lviv region two Russian citizens who are suspected of plotting to take hostage several Ukrainians, including a presidential candidate.

The arrested persons were born in 1987 and 1986, the SBU press center reported on Thursday.

According to the report, during the inspection of a car that belongs to one of the detainees, a 200-gram TNT block, a cylinder-like object with a metal wire attached to it (probably a detonator), 16 rounds for a Makarov pistol, and a notebook with details of cars used by the presidential candidate and a timetable of his movements were found.

In addition, they found a tablet with images of this politician, as well as members of Lviv Regional Council, one former MP, photos of houses belonging to them, and plans for gaining access to them.

The prosecutor's office of Lviv region is currently deciding whether to launch criminal proceedings under Article 112 (an attempt on life of a public figure) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The SBU press center hasn't disclosed the names of the politicians concerned.
