Crimean Tatars plan to set up autonomous territory in Crimea

The delegates of a congress of Crimean Tatars plan to adopt a resolution titled " On the Crimean Tatar people's right to self-determination on their historical territory in Crimea."

"By adopting this document, we inform all parties of the beginning of political and legal procedures for setting up a national autonomous territory of the Crimean Tatar people on their historical territory in Crimea," Refat Chubarov, the chairman of the Majilis of Crimean Tatars, told the delegates of an extraordinary session of the Crimean Tatar congress of the six th convocation in Bakhch y sarai on Saturday.

"It is doubtless, however, that not a single party should have the right to trample on the Crimean Tatar people's inalienable and natural right to determine their fate and their future on their historical territory in Crimea on their own," Chubarov said.

About 250 delegates are present at the congress.

The session was started with the anthem of Crimean Tatars, after which Crimean Muslim Mufti Haji Emirali Ablayev blessed the congress' work, saying that "Crimean Tatars returned to their homeland after years of deportation."

"Despite the fact that Crimea is having hard times today, we should not leave Crimea," he said.

Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of the Russian internal republic of Tatarstan, is present at the congress as an honorary guest.
