Around 700 providers temporarily suspend broadcasting Russian channels in Ukraine

As of March 27 a total of 696 providers have complied with the ruling of the Kyiv district administrative court on temporary broadcasts suspension of Russian TV channels - Channel One, RTR-Planet, Rossiya-24, NTV-World - in the multichannel networks in Ukraine.

The broadcasts of the named channels were stopped completely in 22 out of 24 Ukrainian regions, the Ukrainian national council for television and radio broadcasts said.

Only half the providers of the Donetsk region and 81% of the Odessa region complied with the court ruling.

In Kyiv all 43 providers, who had Russian channels, have suspended their broadcasts.

On March 25 the Kyiv district administrative court ruled to suspend broadcasts of four Russian TV channels in Ukraine, while the lawsuit of the national council for television and radio broadcasting to the broadcasting company is being considered.

Thus, the ruling suspended broadcasts of RTR-Planet, Rossiya 24 (Russia 24), Channel One, and NTV-World.

The Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council ordered the Ukrainian Security Service and Prosecutor General's Office to investigate the activities of Russian channels in Ukraine. According to the National Security and Defense Council, it is necessary to find out whether the activities of Russian channels comply with Ukrainian law and whether they have incidents of inciting inter-ethnic enmity, appeals for war and separatism.

Channel One General Director Konstantin Ernst said on March 26 he urged Ukraine to cancel the decision to temporarily suspend broadcasts of Russian channels.
